Abstract

Background; Ultrasound knees can be used to diagnose many types of pathology and guide various diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Aim and objectives; The aim of this study was to compare ultrasound versus x-rays for the knee in patients with thyroid dysfunction.
Subjects and methods; This study was a cross-sectional study. Musculoskeletal ultrasound outpatient clinic of the Rheumatology, Physical Medicine, and Rehabilitation Department at Aswan University Hospitals. at least 50 patients.
Results: study conducted on 50 patients, 92% were females, with a mean age of 42.1 ± 11.57 and a mean weight of 71.9 ± 10.13. The studied cases were divided into two groups: Group (A) had hypothyroidism and Group (B) had hyperthyroidism in 70.0% and 22.0% of cases, respectively. The present study showed that, with regard to knee examinations within the whole group, 52% had abnormal findings. The most abnormal finding was knee pain by 52%, and the least abnormal finding was enthisitis by 8%.
Conclusion; Both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid states were associated with MSUS abnormalities and knee arthralgia. MSUS examination may be helpful in uncontrolled thyroid dysfunction and knee arthralgia. U/S showed quadriceps and patellar tendinopathy, which is more common in hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism.
