Abstract

Antibiotic resistance developing bacteria have led to a renewed interest in bioactive compounds, particularly antibiotics. The combination of Actinomycetes and their bioactive metabolites with scientists using advanced techniques such as genomics and metabolomics to identify new compounds with potential as antibiotics is a promising combination. This study tested metabolic organic extracts from 29 actinomycete strains against four human pathogenic bacterial reference cultures. The results highlighted the bioactivity of Streptomyces albidoflavus SAC61, with the lowest MIC as a potential source of novel antimicrobial agents against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. Non-targeted metabolomics and molecular modeling technique (LC-QTOF-MS-MS) were used to identify potential mechanisms of action and target sites of the produced antibiotic. This study highlights the potential of Streptomyces albidoflavus SAC61 strain extracts as a good source of potent antimicrobial products. It emphasizes the need for further research to isolate and identify more active compounds and recognizes their mechanisms of action to combat antibiotic resistance.
