Abstract

School-age children's satisfaction regarding care provided during their hospitalization is very important to improve their health care outcomes. Objective: To identify the school-age children's satisfaction regarding the care provided for them during their period of hospitalization. Research Design: A descriptive research design was used to accomplish this study. Settings: This study was carried out at three pediatric inpatient medical wards of Alexandria University Children's Hospital at El-Shatby in Alexandria. Subjects: A convenient sample of 200 hospitalized school-age children, who ranged from 7 to 12 years and hospitalized for at least one week. Tools: Two tools were used to collect the necessary data and developed by the researchers. Tool one: “Children's characteristics and clinical data record". Tool two: “School-age children's satisfaction regarding the care provided during their hospitalization structured interview schedule". Results: The study findings showed that
only 9% of hospitalized school-age children had a completely satisfied level of care provided during their hospitalization. Additionally, only 8.5% of the hospitalized school-age children had a completely satisfied level of physical care provided. Moreover, nineteen percent of hospitalized school-age children had a completely satisfied level concerning social care provided. Further, only twelve percent of hospitalized school-age children had a completely satisfied level of care concerning emotional care provided. Conclusion: Hospitalized school-age children had a low level of satisfaction regarding care provided.
