Abstract

The current work assesses the sandstones of the Kafr El Sheikh Formation and El-Wastani Formation for being promising new gas reservoirs in Tao field at the Offshore North Sinai concession of the Nile Delta Basin. This assessment has been achieved through petrophysical evaluation of wireline logs for four wells (Tao-1, Tao-2, Tao-6 and Tao-8). The visual analysis of well logs data revealed that Tao-1 Well is the only well demonstrating positive criteria in three zones for being potential gas reservoirs. The favourable zone within El-Wastani Formation locates between depths 670.3m and 681.6m (Zone A). However, the other positive zones in Kafr El Sheikh Formation occur between depths: 1299–1316.8m (Zone B) and 1430–1477.5m (Zone C). The quantitative evaluation shows that the Zone A of El-Wastani Formation is the best gas-bearing zone in Tao-1 Well in terms of reservoir quality since it exhibits lowest shale volume nearly zero, minimum water saturation (0.1) and lowest bulk volume of water (0.04). On the other hand, the sandstones of Kafr El Sheikh Formation in Tao-1 contain two reservoir zones (B and C) with the total net pay thickness of 17.8m and 47.5m respectively. Moreover, the obtained results revealed that it is expected for zones B and C to produce gas without water.
