Abstract

Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) plays a pivotal role in sustainable development by fostering social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental stewardship. This study examines the multifaceted impact of ICH, which includes traditions, rituals, performing arts, and indigenous knowledge systems, on sustainable development goals. By integrating ICH into development strategies, communities can leverage their cultural assets to promote sustainable tourism, enhance local economies, and preserve biodiversity. Key findings highlight how traditional ecological knowledge contributes to sustainable agricultural practices and natural resource management, thereby supporting environmental sustainability. Moreover, cultural festivals and artisanal crafts provide significant economic opportunities, especially in marginalized and rural areas, by attracting tourism and creating jobs. ICH also strengthens social networks and community resilience, promoting inclusive societies that value cultural diversity and heritage. The preservation and promotion of ICH are essential for achieving long-term sustainability. This requires collaborative efforts involving local communities, governments, and international organizations to safeguard these practices from the threats of globalization and modernization. By embedding ICH into policy frameworks and development plans, we can ensure that cultural heritage remains a vibrant and integral part of our sustainable future.
