Abstract

This research paper aims to investigate, discuss, study and publish one of the rings of King 'Fouad I', which had not been published before and is preserved in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo. The ring is considered documentary and historical evidence of King 'Fouad I' assuming the rule of Egypt. This ring was made specifically for the occasion of his accession to the throne of Egypt. The study also aims to shed light on some of the important figures of that time period, such as the calligrapher 'Nasib Saeed Makarem', who presented the ring to King 'Fouad I'. In addition to discussing the types of metals used in making the ring, which are gold and silver. Jewellery and adornment items varied during the era of the Muhammad Ali family in particular, where the rulers of this era left for us a huge and wonderful legacy of rings, necklaces, medals, bracelets, belts and other types of jewellery. Hence, there have been many makers of such artistic pieces due to the great demand for them by the royal family or the upper classes. The production of a ring - for example - requires a maker to design and manufacture the ring, in addition to the need for an artist to work on implementing various decorations that varied between floral and geometric decorations and written inscriptions. The methodology of this study becomes clear through descriptive and analytical comparative study, which is done through discussion, investigation and analysis in order to clarify and highlight the elements and structure of the study content.
