Abstract

The paper aims at recognizing the statistical distribution of pregnancy wastage among Egyptian females as reported in one of the national demographic surveys undertaken in the early eighties. Pregnancy wastage was treated in the context of failure rate models, frequently used in connection with life-testing operations of engineering, physical and biological nature. Hazard plotting method was used to approximate the statistical distribution that best fits the time elapsed prior to the termination of pregnancy in an abortion or a stillbirth. It was concluded that the Weibull distribution is the most appropriate statistical distribution derived. Goodness of fit test was undertaken to consolidate the finding. Maximum likelihood estimates of model parameters were also obtained.
