Abstract

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a critical medical emergency due to its potential to cause visual loss, which can be avoided through prompt and intensive diagnosis and treatment of affected patients. GCA is a form of vasculitis characterized by inflammation that primarily affects the elderly pop-ulation and may lead to visual impairment. The present review examines the advantages of timely detection and intervention, and deliberates on the treatment modalities that are at disposal for the management of the condition. This review aims at focusing on the benefits of early treatments and its available options.
