The study aimed to identify the extent to which the agricultural population adherence to twelve traditional values related to land ownership, sons' pride, preference for male education over females, inheriting agriculture land to girls female circumcision, wife work, kinship marriage, participation in public work., trust in government representatives, birth control, dealing with banks, and the view of the farming profession. It also, aimed to identify the relationship of the degree of adherence to these values with variables of gender, age, educational level, income, and the development level of the village.
A filled study was conducted on a random sample of heads of agricultural households consisting of 133 heads of the households of two villages of Bohira governorate. The results indicate an increase in the degree of the adherence to all traditional values, by 65%, and the existence of a statistically significant relationship between the degree of adherence to these traditional values and the variable level of development of the village, and the absence of any significant relationships with rest of the variables. The study concluded by discussing its important results, and presenting some proposals to work to change these traditional values that hinder rural development.
