Abstract

A comparison of signs and symbols in tattoos in Egypt and Amazigh tattoos in North Africa. The research deals with the sign and symbol as a concept and definition, their use in different civilizations and in folklore, what is the meaning of tattoos and what are the elements used to express the culture of societies and the difference between them through these elements and the meanings they refer to It reflects the tattoo environment and its users. Among those elements: The lion, the fish, the man and the girl, the sparrow, the palm tree, the moon spike, and the snake. And what are the tattoos of men and women and what do they indicate? The researcher also makes a comparison between the shape, mark, and symbol of tattoos and the association of these practices with different social and ideological customs. The research reviews the different forms of tattoo images, as well as the art of painting on the body as an extension of different cultures. The research studies tattoos and their symbols in Egypt and North Africa. The research pours into the circle of signs and symbols that represent the visual identity, with its heritage roots dating back to mythical thought and folk tales.
