Abstract

Cultural sustainability is the continuity of preserving cultural heritage and traditions in human societies, and it is one of the sustainable development goals that Egypt seeks to achieve in preserving cultural heritage. The concept of functional diversity in archeological areas and their reuse as an open theatre supports the principles of cultural sustainability in interior design. The research includes the study of cultural sustainability and its relationship to the preservation of cultural buildings, in preserving the identity, the spiritual and moral values in the architecture and interior design. The ancient Egyptian temples such as Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple are considered one of the ancient Egyptian temples that were employed as open theaters in the national celebrations in Egypt. It includes the historical scene as a part of the celebration, also as a part of the interior design of the open theater. The research includes a study of the open theater, design and acoustic considerations, and how to design and build the interior design of the open theater to achieve the unity with the architecture of temples, according to considerations of preserving civilization and heritage. The research reviews the celebration of the Sphinx Avenue that connects the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple as a model that expresses the influence of the idea of the interior design of the open theater in the archaeological areas to support cultural sustainability.
