Using of Information and Communication Technology by Agricultural Extension workers in some governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Abstract

This research aimed mainly at determining the degree of respondents' use of information and communication technology in agricultural extension, as well as determining the degree of importance of using information and communication technology in agricultural extension from the respondents' point of view, and identifying the relationship between the total degree of use of information and communication technology in agricultural extension and the studied personal variables of the respondents. The field study was conducted in four governorates as they include the largest number of agricultural extension workers, namely the governorates of Menoufia and Beheira in Lower Egypt, and the governorates of Assiut and Qena in Upper Egypt, in order to obtain preliminary data from a simple random sample of 250 respondents from a total of 712 agricultural extension workers in the four governorates, using A personal interview questionnaire was specially prepared for this purpose, and used in the analysis and presentation of the data frequencies, percentages, and average arithmetic, weighted average, standard deviation, Pearson's simple correlation coefficient, and chi-square test, using the statistical software package for social sciences SPSS. The most important results resulted in: -  That (70.0%, 51.6%) of the respondents use the international information network "the Internet" and social networking sites, respectively, to a low degree, and (38.0%) of the respondents use the smart mobile phone to a medium degree, while (67.6%, 65.6%, 46.8%, and 64.8%) of the respondents do not use e-mail, computer CD & DVD, computers, laptops, and tablets, respectively. - The majority of the respondents (64.8%) have low usage with regard to the overall degree of use of information and communication technology. -  The vast majority of the respondents (80.4%) believe that there is a high degree of importance for the use of information and communication technology in agricultural extension. There is a significant relationship between the total degree of use of information and communication technology by the respondents and the independent variables studied: age, educational qualification, duration of experience in using modern means of communication, attending training courses, and the degree of trust in information and communication technology information sources at a significant level of 0.01, and the presence of A significant relationship between the total degree of the respondents' use of information and communication technology in agricultural extension and specialization at a significant level of 0.05.
