Abstract

Meggittina gerbilli has few numbers of segments (3 to 6), with triangular-shaped scolex. Usually, the transversely elongate gravid segments are deeply cut posteriorly by a longitudinal fissure forming two lateral wings with serrated posterior end with irregular alternated genital openings. M. gerbilli collected from Gerbillus pyramidium pyramidium I. Geoffroy, 1825 (greater Egyptian gerbil) and Pachyuromys duprasi natronensis Lataste, 1880 (Fat-tailed gerbil or jird). While Skrjabinotaenia oranensis is characterized by having more segments (3 to 16), with rounded-shaped scolex. Cirrus is provided with tiny hairs structures. Elongate undivided gravid segments with regular alternated genital openings. S. oranensis collected from Psammomys obesus obesus Crezschmar, 1828 (Fat sand rat). M. gerbilli and S. oranensis reveal dimorphic microtriches. Present scanning electron microscopic observations valid these taxonomic characters in the differentiation between M. gerbilli and S. oranensis and confirm the presence of two distinct types of microtriches; filitriches (papilliform and capilliform) and spinitriches (small gladiate) on the different parts of the body in both species.
