Effect of Continuous Care Model on Quality of Life among Women with Preeclampsia

Abstract

            Background: Preeclampsia belongs to the spectrum of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and if untreated leads to dangerous consequences for both the mother and the baby. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate effect of continuous care model on quality of life among women with preeclampsia. Research design: Quasi-experimental design (pre-posttest, one group) was utilized. Setting: The study was conducted at Obstetrics and Gynecological out -patient clinic at Benha University Hospital. Sampling: A purposive sample of 75 women with preeclampsia was recruited. Tools of data collection: Three tools were included 1) A self-administered questionnaire,2) self-care reported practices questionnaire, 3) World Health Organization Quality of Life - BREF. Results: After implementation of the continuous care model, the total mean score for total quality of life of the studied sample was higher than the score before implementation with a highly statistically significant difference (p ≤ 0.001) and there was a highly significant positive correlation between total self-care reported practices and total quality of life regarding preeclampsia at pre, immediately post and one-month post-intervention phases (p ≤ 0.001). Conclusion: Continuous care model had a positive effect on self-care practices and quality of life among women with preeclampsia. Recommendations: Applying instructional package and counselling tips for women  with pregnancy induced hypertension about discharge  teaching plan to maintain healthy life style.
