Although there are indications of the Italian presence in Egypt since the Middle Ages, the establishment of a real Italian community dates to the era of Muhammad Ali, who established the modern state of Egypt, followed by the emigration of many Italian technicians to Egypt to participate in the construction of the Suez Canal. Italians flocked to Egypt at the time of the Italian Risorgimento to escape the political conditions in their country of origin. This migration was characterized by a high level of cultural arrivals, which led to the popularity of the Italian language in some sectors of the administration, in high society, and in the court. The Italian language spread in Egyptian society in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, as the Italian language was the official language of the Egyptian government, and a tool for intellectual and literary expression.
Italian newspapers have been published in Egypt since 1845, the date of the publication of Lo spettatore egiziano in Alexandria, followed by several other newspapers, the most famous and longest-lived L'imparziale  founded in Cairo in 1892, and then Merged in 1930 with  the Messaggero egiziano to be Giornale d'Oriente, which continued to be published until 1940, and in its first months of publication achieved a wide spread of more than 7,000 copies .
This paper focalizes the efforts to document and digitize the Italian heritage published in Egypt in the 19th and 20th centuries, its importance and prospects for its development, as a unique and exceptional cultural impact,  as stipulated in the fourth standard of the Guidelines for the Convention on the Preservation of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, issued by UNESCO in 1972.
