Purpose: The study aimed to investigate key determinant of household water use such as contextual (income, education, and family size) and behavioral and socio-psychological factors related to water use. We utilized a non-probability descriptive study of 569 moms chosen and interviewed to raise their environmental knowledge and equip them to actively environmentally socialize their children and families.
Results:
Our study population was mother with mean age of 30.6, mostly high-school and college educated with family size of 4-7 with one maid moderating the family dynamic at 62.4%. Mothers knew desalination was implemented but unaware their domestic water is from the same source. Only 15.2% of respondents said they reduce the faucet while use. 41% of moms limited washing machine use, while 37% monitored maids. Attitudes and psychological variables suggest a hedonistic value of 43.8% for increased water consumption, 37.4% for washing fruits and vegetables and 53.4% for washing machines. Mothers sense of low control for leaking faucet at 17.929.4%. As an identity, 97% of moms were able to recall related Hadith and Quran texts. Mothers (31.8-49%) and house help (4.1-48.5%) were responsible for water conservation. As a mother's water cost increases, her feeling of self-control and conservation attitudes drop, while her desire to educate others about water conservation increases as her ‎home water saving methods increase.
