الانتكاس مصطلح عام في الطب يستخدم أيضاً لوصف عودة المرض بعد الشفاء منه.ويعتبر الانتكاس حالة شائعة بين المتعافين من الإدمان، حيث يعتقد ان نسبة من يعانون من الانتكاس بعد الإقلاع عن المخدرات تتراوح بين 40% و60%، وقد يختبرون انتكاسة الإدمان أكثر من مرة بعد العلاج، وتعتبر الشهور الثلاثة الأولى هي الأخطر لحصول انتكاسة، غير أن احتمال الانتكاس في الإدمان قد يظل قائماً مدى الحياة، مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار أن مرور سنة كاملة على الإقلاع التام عن المخدرات يقلل بنسبة كبيرة جداً فرصة الانتكاس .
