يعد اضطراب العلاقات الاجتماعية التي تواجه ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة من المواضيع الهامة والمؤثرة في ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة، لذا نجد أن الدراسات التي تهتم بدراسة مشکلات الأشخاص ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة عامةً والأطفال بالخصوص واسعة الانتشار في الدول المتحضرة والم تقدمة، إلا أنه بعد إصدار الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الدولية تشريعات ولوائح منذ منتصف القرن الماضي ، أزداد الاهتمام بهذه الشريحة بمختلف الاعمار، فقد اهتم هذ ا البحث بأهم المشکلات التي يعاني منها ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة منها المشکلات الصحية، والاجتماعية، والاقتصادية، والتعليمية، والنفسية، وهذه المشکلات الناجمة عن الاعاقة والتي تؤثر على المعوق تأثيراً سلبياً في سلوکه او في اداءه لأدواره الاجتماعية أو عدم تکيفه مع المحيطين به سواءاً کانت اسرته او اصدقائه ... الخ.
