The subject of this study is the analysis of the current system of production, supply, and contract management for sugar crops in Egypt from 2008-2009 to 2022-2023. Sugar crops are among the most strategic crops that the state is keen to expand in terms of cultivated area and to maximize production per unit area to achieve self-sufficiency. Therefore, successful management of this sector requires a deep understanding of how to organize production and supply, as well as the contracts associated with these crops. Egypt faces numerous challenges in this field, from achieving production sustainability to improving supply systems and ensuring fairness in contracts between farmers and factories. Despite efforts to enhance the sector's efficiency, there remains substantial room for improving the policies and techniques used in managing sugar crops.
The study indicates that, under current contractual farming conditions in Egypt, the productivity of sugarcane has decreased annually by statistically significant rate of about 0.2 tons. Meanwhile, the productivity of sugar beet has declined, but not significantly, suggesting that sugar beet productivity has remained relatively stable over the study period. Additionally, there has been a statistically significant increase in the area cultivated for both crops, with the annual increase in sugar beet cultivation being about 20 times greater than that for sugarcane.
