Abstract

Pickett saturation plot was performed for the gas –bearing reservoir intervals of the Middle Eocene Sheghega Formation in six wells located in the Sirt Basin, Libya. The petrophysical exponents of the pickett plot are significant for the accurate estimation of fluids saturation where these parameters influence the calculations of water saturation and hence the hydrocarbon saturation. Pickett plot is used to determine the petrophysical exponents which are: cementation(m) and saturation exponents (n) for a clean formation. The results indicated gas-bearing intervals with good accumulation of gas and a net pay zone thickness ranging from 67 to 189 ft whereas effective porosity ranges between 15% and 26%. The borehole geophysical log was used to evaluate the cementation factor and saturation exponent using the Pickett's plot. These values are influenced by the shale volume, grain size, pore space and pore geometry. Most of the wells showed cementation factor between 2.06 and 2.52 and saturation exponent value of 2.7.
