Abstract

INTRODUCTION:‎
Healthcare-related infective endocarditis is (HCRIE) is a serious health problem that ‎has several impacts on healthcare services. It is associated with high incidence of ‎morbidity and mortality. HCRIE constitutes up to 10-34% of total IE cases. The ‎incidence of HCRIE continues to increase because of ultimate increase in using invasive ‎diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in health care settings, increase in degenerative ‎valve pathology in the elderly, also increased rate of cardiac interventions in the form of ‎prosthetic valve replacement and implantation of other cardiac devices as pacemakers & ‎ICDs.‎

AIM OF THE STUDY:‎
The aim of the study was to register cases of healthcare-related infective endocarditis ‎presented to Alexandria main University Hospital and identify their common risk ‎factors, clinical characteristics and outcomes.‎

SUBJECTS AND METHODS:‎
Our studyprospectively enrolled 52 patients with HCRIE. All patients were subjected ‎to detailed history taking, clinical examination, resting electrocardiography (ECG), ‎echocardiography and several laboratory investigations.‎
