Abstract

The present study was conducted to study the influence of dietary different levels of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPS) on productive performance, egg quality traits, some blood plasma constituents, zinc in egg yolk, plasma and tissues content, antioxidant status, tibia bone characteristics, nutrients digestibility and economic efficiency of Gimmizah laying hens. A total number of 144, 49 weeks of age Gimmizah laying hens were randomly distributed and divided into four similar experimental groups, each group was represented by 36 hens in three replicates (12 hens/ replicate), feeding basal diet supplemented with nano-zinc as follows: T1: Basal diet, (control group) supplemented with premix which contain inorganic zinc as zinc oxide. T2: Basal diet with free premix of Zn + 5 mg nano zinc oxide (ZNO-NPS)/ kg diet. T3: Basal diet with free premix of Zn + 15 mg nano zinc oxide (ZNO-NPS)/ kg diet. T4: Basal diet with free premix of Zn + 25 mg nano zinc oxide (ZNO-NPS)/ kg diet. The fourth group to whose diet 25 mg of nano-zinc/kg was added had the highest production rate, the best feed conversion rate, least feed intake, highest significant improvement in eggshell quality, highest value of egg shape index at the age of 55 and 60 weeks, highest significant improvement in some blood plasma parameters such as total protein, albumin, globulin, liver and kidney enzymes AST and ALT, as well as the concentration of glucose in the blood plasma - while it increased significantly (at a significant level of 0.05) the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentration in blood plasma, it was significantly higher in the zinc content of: tissues (liver and pancreas), blood plasma, egg yolk and leg bones - and the activity of the glutathione peroxidase enzyme improved (GPx activity) in the blood, liver and egg yolk compared to the control group - while the level of MDA concentration decreased in the treatments to which nano-Zn was added compared to the control. The results also showed that the birds fed on diets supplemented with zinc oxide nanoparticles had the highest digestion parameters for nutrients, the best values for weight, fracture strength and ash percentage of the leg bones of the birds, compared to the control group. The economic and relative economic efficiency improved by adding nano-zinc, and the best values were for the third treatment (1.83 and 109.58, respectively) that were fed on the diet supplemented with nano-zinc oxide (ZnO-NPS) at a rate of 15 mg/kg diet compared to the other treatments. In general: the results indicated that feeding laying hens (Gymmayzeh laying hens) on diets with added nano-zinc at a rate of 25 mg/ kg diet (the fourth treatment) had the highest rate of productive performance. While the third treatment with nano-zinc added at a rate of 15 mg/kg diet had the best economic efficiency (1.83) and the highest relative economic efficiency (109.58). This may be due to the high price of diet in the fourth treatment compared to the rest of the experimental treatments under the experimental conditions.
