Abstract

While more than two-thirds of the Earth is covered by water, drinking water scarcity is a serious issue that many countries suffer from. A large gap of demand for fresh water has resulted due to worldwide rapid growth of industry and population. There is shortage of fresh water in many regions such as rural areas, remote regions. These areas also suffer from lowering in the acceptable quality of drinking water. Solar desalination is found to be friendly to the environment and economical method to produce fresh water to provide the needs of such communities. Solar still is one of the technical applications of solar desalination. There are different types and designs of solar still that have to be developed to enhance the productivity of solar still, because of its lower productivity. Many studies were carried out to improve the productivity of the still. finally, it is an economical technique compared to other desalination methods.
