The tour guide is considered the backbone and nerve of the tourism process, its active element, and one of the most influential people on the tourist's trip. He is a transmitter of expertise, information, and experience, and his preparation and scientific, cognitive, and ethical qualifications are also essential components of the tourism industry. Therefore, the tourist guide must practice ethical acts in accordance with a charter and ethical standards, as ethical charters represent agreed-upon basic principles and rules that must be respected during the practice of the profession, which in turn will have an impact on the tourist and the profession of tour guiding—indeed, on the entire tourism process. Although it is important to have a professional charter for tour guides, there is no officially announced ethical charter specific to tour guides in Egypt. In this context, this study aims to define the concepts of ethical charters, their importance and objectives, and attempt to reach the problems facing the guide community during the practice of the profession. Personal interviews were conducted with a sample of tour guides, and, finally, a proposal was presented for a code of ethics appropriate to the circumstances and values of Egyptian tourist guides in the light of current developments in tourism activity.
