VIRAL ENDOSYMPOSIS IN PARASITIC PROTOZOA: A REVIEW ARTICLE

Abstract

Parasitic protozoa are responsible for numerous diseases of humans and animals globally. Understanding
the factors influencing their pathogenicity and evolution is crucial for effective disease
management. Among these factors, viral endosymbiosis has recently gained attention for its
potential impact on host-parasite interactions, disease progression and treatment challenge.
This review summarizes the existing literature, researches and case studies to investigate the
phenomenon of viral endosymbiosis in parasitic protozoa. Relevant articles and research papers
were identified through comprehensive literature searches using electronic databases.
The presence of endosymbiotic viruses has significant implications for disease progression and
may offer potential targets for therapeutic interventions.
