Deep over bite with gummy smile can be treated with orthodontics only or combination with orthognathic surgery. The approach depends on the etiology and severity of the problem, such as the extent of gummy smile. When surgical treatment is not an option because of the patient's refusal to undergo surgery, or because no maxillary vertical excess is present, the use of miniscrews is a treatment option that offers an effective method for attaining maxillary incisor intrusion and correcting the gummy smile. Intrusion of upper and lower incisors, reducing deep overbite, can be easily achieved by placing miniscrews in anterior interradicular areas and applying the proper orthodontic mechanics. One or two miniscrews may be placed between central incisors, central and lateral incisors, or lateral incisors and canines. The miniscrew (or screws) has to be correctly located, As often a good outcome with minimal incisor protrusion can be obtained. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare one anterior miniscrew versus two anterior miniscrews for correcting deep overbite with gummy smile using cone beam computerized tomography.
