Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a complex disease with a wide range of clinical characteristics, histologic subtypes, treatment options, and prognoses. Breast imaging shows different tumor morphologies due to the diverse biology and histology of breast cancer. The correlation between morphological characteristics, molecular, and epigenetic markers in breast cancer evaluation has been examined in a few studies. Aim: to evaluate the correlation between ultrasound features, molecular and epigenetic markers in breast cancer cases. Subjects and Methods: A total of 115 women (80 cases and 35 controls) with BIRAD 4 Category breast lesions were included. The associations between the ultrasound features and molecular as well as epigenetic markers were evaluated. Results: The molecular markers were significantly correlated with posterior features of the lesion by ultrasound. Despite the significant correlation between the ITGB1 gene expression FC of the cases and that of the controls, ITGB1 gene expression FC was not significantly correlated with ultrasound features. Conclusion:Some ultrasound features can predict the molecular subtype of breast cancer. However, it can't be correlated with the levels of Linc-ITGB1 gene expression.
