Abstract

The concept of sustainable development has received significant attention in the tourism sector, especially in recent years. Due to the sensitivity of this sector, it was necessary to focus on ways to keep up with the changes and developments that the world has recently witnessed while maintaining the sustainability of resources. Hence, the importance of social resilience emerged as a means of adaptation and increasing the ability of communities to face current changes in the tourism sector through collaboration between stakeholders, including the local community, government, and private bodies. Therefore, this study aims to identify the importance of social resilience as a tool to support the role of stakeholders within the tourism sector and investigate its impact on achieving sustainable tourism development by applying it to Al Max area in Alexandria) fishing community (. The study relied on a qualitative approach through conducting personal interviews, which involved governmental bodies, tourism sector bodies, and the local community. This study aimed to measure community resilience to understand their ability to accept projects provided by the government and how they were involved and communicated with them. The study concluded that the lack of resilience and the inability of residents to accept changes and participate in development have negatively affected the role of stakeholders, thus impacting the achievement of sustainable tourism development. The study ended with recommendations directed to the government, private sector, and residents, emphasizing the importance of resilience and the involvement of the local community in development to achieve tourism sustainability.
