Abstract

The article examines the most important morphological features of the German and Arabic legal language by comparing some articles of the German penal code with the Egyptian penal code; from the perspective of legal linguistics. The aim of this is to clarify whether both the Egyptian and German criminal codes have the same morphological characteristics. The work is based on the analytical and contrastive method according to Roelcke (2020). The study provides many results, the most important of which are: There is largely convergence between German and Arabic legal languages in terms of morphological features. Both languages tend to use nouns, with nouns being dominant in both languages. The active voice is more commonly used in the German and Egyptian criminal codes. Furthermore, there is a morphological divergence between German and Arabic legal language; for example, compound words are frequently used in German. However, in Arabic, derivatives are the most predominant.
