Abstract

This study evaluated the growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei of different initial weights received different feeding frequencies/day. The experiment divided into three main groups depending on the initial weight; group 1 (G1) was a twelve-day post larvae (PL12), group 2 (G2) was a L. vannamei of 4.5 gram initial weight (4.5 g), group 3 (G3) was a L. vannamei of 9 gram initial weight (9 g), each group received feeding frequencies of two, four, and six times a day. L. vannamei was stocked in happas established in earthen ponds for 45 days. Feeding 6 times a day in G3 increased significantly the final weight (FW), weight gain (WG), survival rate (SR), daily gain index (DGI), daily gain rate (DGR), final biomass (FB) compared to all experimental treatments. On the other hand, the feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), and percent body weight increasing (PBWI) were significantly enhanced in G1 especially with 6 times feeding frequency. Feeding six times a day achieved the best growth performance of L. vannamei in earthen ponds compared to four and two times, respectively. The higher initial weight of L. vannamei (9 g) achieved the best growth performance parameters compared to the 4.5g and PL12 groups. While the PL12 group achieved the best FCR, SGR, and PBWI compared to the 4.5 g and 9 g groups. So it can be concluded that feeding six times a day is useful to be applied L. vannamei, especially in young stages (PL12).
