Biofilm production by pseudomonas species isolated from bulk tank milk and some milk products

Abstract

Pseudomonas species is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria dominate the microbial community in raw milk and its products, it encountered in biotechnological processes and in serious human or plant roles pathogen. Pseudomonas can form biofilms on various types of surfaces, The biofilm phenotype is characterized by increased resistance to environmental aggressors, including resistance to antibiotics and other disinfectants, this leads to many problems in healthcare, food industry and other fields. So, the aim of the present study was to isolate Pseudomonas spp. from two hundred samples of milk and milk products samples and determine their ability to form biofilm. Pseudomonas species was recovered from bulk tank milk, Kariesh cheese, Yoghurt and Ice cream with incidence of 36 %, 26%, 22% and 16 %, respectively. The incidence of isolation of Ps. aeruginosa were 16%, 14%, 6% and 12% while, Ps. Fluorescence were 12%, 4%, 6% and 12% also, Ps. putida were 4%, 2%, 0%, 2% and Ps. diminuta were 4%, 2%, 4%, 0% from samples of bulk tank milk ,Kariesh cheese, yoghurt and ice cream respectively. For biofilm formation Ps. aeruginosa strain has the ability to produce biofilm as 9 (33.4%) of the isolated strains were strong biofilm producer, 5 (18.5%) were moderate, 5 (18.5%) were weak, while 8 (29.6%) were non biofilm producer. Also, 6 (46.3%) of the isolated Ps. fluorescence stains were strong biofilm former while, 2 (15.4%) was moderate and 3 (23.1%) were weak, but 5 (15.4%) were unable to form biofilm.
