Abstract

Premature graying of hair (PGH) is a commonly known condition causing significant psychological stress and cosmetic disfigurement. There is unclear significant data available on the clinical profile and pathogenesis. PGH is caused by various exogenous and endogenous factors. There are many causative factors genetic or heredity, oxidative stress from ultraviolet rays, pollution, emotional factors, and inflammatory causes. Also, other environmental factors , drugs, smoking, trace elements, and nutritional deficiency, may play a role in PHG Autophagy may play a significant role in PGH. Many factors have been established to explain the etiopathogenesis of PGH, yet the exact mechanism is still unclear. Also, many treatment modalities have been applied with unsatisfactory results. This review article aims to optimize the most recent and accepted concepts on etiopathogenesis and pathophysiology of PGH and the relation between autophagy and its corresponding genes which may help in finding the best lines of management with the most satisfactory outcomes.
