Abstract

Introduction: The cranial base angle was of a great importance in determining the sagittal skeletal discrepancies and the lateral cephalometric radiographs is a valuable tool to measure the saddle angle with the skeletal maxillary and mandibular positions.
Aim: to find out if there is a correlation between the cranial base angle and the sagittal skeletal discrepancies using lateral cephalometric radiographs.
Methods: The selected sample included a total number of 60 Cephalometric radiographs of patients ranging in age from [15-25] years, after the examination of initial number of 120 radiographs.
Results: the results of this study was that no significance were found between the cranial base angle measures in Class II malocclusion and the skeletal Class I normal cases and readings. Also the cranial base angle is significantly smaller than normal in the Egyptian population with skeletal class III cases, especially caused by mandibular protrusion.

Conclusion: in the conclusion there was a correlation between the cranial base and skeletal class III cases, especially caused by mandibular protrusion. And there was no correlation between the cranial base angle measures in Class II malocclusion and the skeletal Class I normal cases and readings.
