Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea continues to be a significant issue that worries adolescent and young adult women. The occurrence of this condition is common and often not adequately addressed .Aim: assess effect of self-acupressure on SP6 point on primary dysmenorrhea among Faculty of Nursing Students. Design: Quasi-experimental research design. Setting: Faculty of Nursing at Sohag University. Sample: A purposive sample of 100 female students. Tools: Tool I: Structured interviewing questionnaire Tool II: Visual Analog Scale (VAS) Tool III: Modified McGill Pain Questionnaire Short form (MPQ-SF). Results: There is highly statistical significance difference between pre & posttest regarding pain level with p-value .001. Conclusion: Self-acupressure on SP6 point was effective in relieving the severity of menstrual pain among nursing female students with primary dysmenorrhea. Recommendations: Use of self SP6 acupressure should be advocated as a non-pharmacological approach for management of menstrual pain.
