Effect of Tele-Nursing Counseling on Empowering the Quality of Life among Women with Breast Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among females worldwide. It can negatively impact a woman's quality of life. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of tele-nursing counseling on empowering the quality of life among women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. A quasi-experimental (One group time series research design) was utilized. This study was conducted at the oncology center affiliated with Mansoura University Hospital. Study subjects: A purposive study sample of 100 women with breast cancer who agreed to participate in the current study. Tools: 1) Socio-demographic interviewing sheet; 2) women's knowledge regarding breast cancer and chemotherapy and 3) a specific standard questionnaire to assess the quality of life of breast cancer women. Results: Portrayed an improvement in the studied women's knowledge post-implementing tele-nursing counseling one and two months compared to pre-implementing tele-nursing counseling with significant difference P-value =0.001. Additionally, there was an improvement in the total mean scores across all quality of life domains one month and two months after tele-nursing counseling, compared to pre-counseling levels with statistically significant difference p-value of less than 0.001. Conclusion: Tele-nursing counseling has a positive effect on empowering women with breast cancer chemotherapy. Recommendation: Women with breast cancer should be provided with adequate health knowledge in order to empower their quality of life through conducting tele-nursing counseling.
