Abstract

Out of 163 samples collected from the naso-pharyngeal, tracheal, and lungs of apparently healthy sheep, 4 cases harboured pasteurella organisms (2.45%) Examination of 284 diseased sheep revelaed a total incicence of 5.99% for pasteurellosis. The frequency among apparently healthy and diseased goats had been recorded and ranged to be 0.57% and 1.157% respectively. 3.13% of sheep sampels had Past. multocida and 1.57% contained Past. haemolytica. Such incidences among goats were 0.57% and 1.15% respectively. Sheep Past.multoctda was classified to be type "B" (50.00%), type "A" (28.57%), type "D" (14.29%) and the remiaining was untypable. Past. haemolytica was typed by IHA-test using capsular antigens and anticapsule hyperimmune serum. Out of seven strains isolated from sheep, 6 were biotype "A" and one was biotype "T". The commonest strains were A1 (57.14%), A6, Ag and T3 (14.29% each). Four isolates of Past. haemolytica recovered from goats representing three known serovars.
