Abstract

The study was carried out with the aim of investigating the awareness of Saudi women in regard to the data were collected through a questionnaire interview. The sample was studied in 85 cervical cancer patients and 170 matched controls. The mean age of the cases was 44.1 years and mean parity 6.5, the majority were illiterate. The study revealed the following results: Basic knowledge of abnormalities of vaginal bleeding or discharge vas poor in both groups. Over 90% had never attended any routine gynecological checkup and did not deem it necessary. Pap smear was totally unknown to most cases and controls. So the vital role of public education in the control of cervical carcinoma is emphasized.
