Abstract

The research aimed to identify the extent of interest of electronic sites in including environmental issues, as well as developing environmental citizenship among residents of newly developed areas moved from slums. Two methods were used: A descriptive method using a content analysis form to identify the actual role played by Al-Ahram and Youm7 websites in addressing the issues related to the dimensions of environmental citizenship (personal environmental responsibility-environmental participation-environmental justice), and an experimental method with semi-experimental procedures using a proposed model consisting of a page on the Facebook website that includes environmental content.
An environmental citizenship scale was also developed to measure the impact of the proposed model on the development of environmental citizenship among a group of residents of Asmarat district consisting of (40) individuals. The scale was verified for its validity and reliability. It was applied to the research group, then the environmental content of the proposed model was presented to its members and the scale was again applied to the same group.
The research concluded with a number of results, the most important of which are:

Al-Ahram and Youm7 websites did not adequately cover the issues related to dimensions of environmental citizenship.
The proposed model was effective in developing environmental citizenship among the target group.

The research recommended the development of specialized pages on environmental issues on the Facebook website, and including the dimensions of environmental citizenship in an interactive way through the modern applications provided by Facebook features.
