Abstract

The research aimed to develop the public awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic among the viewers through incorporating a segment about the pandemic in the Egyptian morning show "Sabahk Masry" on TV channel. To achieve this goal, previous studies related to the research topic were consulted and utilized. Researchers adopted a descriptive and experimental approach, employing certain tools to identify the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. A content analysis form was developed to assess the current situation of COVID-19 coverage in a sample of programs on the MBC Masr channel (in form and content). The analyzed programs included "Yahdoth Fi Masr," "Al-Hikaya," and "Min Al-Qalb," which were studied over a period of three months. The researchers found deficiencies in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in these programs. Although they covered the pandemic, the treatments provided were deemed inadequate. Additionally, segments about the COVID-19 pandemic were prepared and filmed. A scale of awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic was also developed to stand on the current status of the research group of young men and women and to ensure its validity and stability for the experimental study group. The scale was then applied to the research group before, then the program segments were displayed, and the scale was applied after and the study concluded with several findings, the most important of which are: The effectiveness of incorporating a segment to enhance public awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic among viewers as it showed the existence of statistically significant differences between the results of the pre- and post-application of the scale as a whole at a significance level of (0.05) in favor of the post-application. The research recommends including segments about the COVID-19 pandemic in programs in TV channel and producing more of such segments that address the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This would foster integration between all media programs.
