Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the role of water accounting in reducing waste rates and improving water security indicators in the Arab Republic of Egypt. This is a systematic study of the water situation in Egypt through the logical methodological connection between quantitative water information using basic traditional financial accounting models to produce fast water accounting statements. In addition, some important quantitative and financial water accounting indicators have been calculated. The research has used both descriptive and quantitative methods to calculate water use efficiency indicators. Moreover, the research emphasizes the importance of calculating more accurate and clear indicators using the water accounting information system. The research results indicate the importance of applying water accounting standards in reducing waste rates and improving water security indicators, measuring as well, the degree of change in water accounting indicators using methods to optimize water consumption at all levels, including individuals, states, and agriculture. By studying the relationship between the amount of available water resources in Egypt for all uses and the time factor that reflects the economic changes that occurred during that period, it is found that there is relative stability throughout the study period. The study recommends the need to take necessary measures and procedures to reduce loss and waste by updating water transport networks, cleaning and deepening canals and drains, and assisting accounting standards developers in developing future water accounting standards that are compatible with various variables. Added to that, improving water resources management by defining the water needs of plants and determining the amount of evaporation in irrigation agriculture through the use of remote sensing technology and satellite images.
