Abstract

Salt leaching is considered one of the fundamental pillars in the reclamation of salt-affected soil. In the study area, the quality of irrigation water poses a challenge to this process, as it is classified as moderately to highly saline water. Therefore, this study aims to improve soil leaching processes and the efficiency of salts and sodium removal using some chemical and organic soil amendments. The study was conducted in lysimeters over nine months from Oct. 15, 2022 to July 15, 2023. The experiment was factorial with four replicates, where the first factor was the salinity of the irrigation water used in leaching (0.8, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 dS m-1), and the second factor was soil amendments (control, gypsum, compost tea, gypsum + compost tea). The results of this study highlighted that the higher the salinity of the water used in soil leaching, the less its effect on salt and sodium removal. Additionally, the interaction between the treatments showed that using gypsum alone or with compost tea with all irrigation water used in leaching significantly improved the leaching efficiency of soil salts. Consequently, the most effective treatment on salts leaching was application of gypsum +compost tea and leaching by water has salinity of 0.83dS/m.
