Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) on the microtensile bond strength of flowable resin composite (FRC) and glass ionomer cement (GIC) to carious primary dentin.

Materials & Methods: A total of 20 extracted carious primary molars were included in this study, the sound proximal surface of each tooth was reduced occluso-gingivally with a diamond bur in high-speed hand piece and was polished with a 600-grit silicon carbide paper to create a flat dentin surface. And were inserted in demineralizing solution for 96hrs to create artificial caries followed by cleaning with deionized water for 30 seconds. The teeth were randomly assigned into 4 groups (n=5 teeth/group): Group I (experimental) (FRCa): SDF38%+FRC, Group II (control) (FRCb): FRC, Group III (experimental) (GICa): SDF38%+GIC, Group IV (control) (GICb): GIC. Microtensile bond strength testing was evaluated under Instron Universal Testing Machine and stressed under tension at a speed of one mm per minute until bond failure. And was calculated by dividing the load at failure (N) by the cross-sectional bonding area (1 mm2). Readings were recorded in megapascal (MPa).

Results: There was no statistical significant difference in microtensile bond strength between Group I (FRCa) & Group II (FRCb) and Group III (GICa) & Group IV (GICb), (p>0.05).

Conclusion: SDF does not adversely affect the microtensile bond strength of FRC and GIC to carious primary molars.
