Abstract

Biochar and Vermicompost are non-traditional organic amendments in agricultural production used to improve crop productivity and soil fertility. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the applications of biochar and vermicompost combined with N fertilizer on soil fertility, yield, nutritional content, and nitrogen-use efficiency. Split-plot experimental design was established. The main plots used non-traditional organic fertilizers, such as biochar (B) and vermicompost (V), at three different addition rates (0, 1000, and 2000 kg/ha). The sub-plots used three different mineral N fertilizer addition rates (0, 150 –200 kg N/ha), with three replicates for each treatment. These findings showed that the application of vermicompost and biochar greatly enhanced recovery efficiency (RE), agronomic efficiency (AE), and nutrient content. Furthermore, whereas adding biochar or vermicompost raised the amount of O.M. and NPK available in the soil, it additionally lowered the soil's pH. As a result, the B2 N2 treatment was shown to be the most successful in enhancing panicum plant yield, likewise improving nutritional content and N efficiency. In conclusion, the application of vermicompost and biochar amendments enhanced the productivity, nutritional content, agronomic efficiency recovery efficiency, and nitrogen use efficiency of panicum fodder.
