Abstract

  The current research aims to conduct a descriptive and analytical study of the discretionary movement in the Diwani Jali calligraphy, and to clarify its role in enriching the calligraphic design aesthetically. The research dealt with the discretionary movement in the structure of the letters of the Diwani Jali calligraphy, as well as in the method of constructing the structure of the calligraphic design, and also through the rhythm resulting from repetition. Some letters and words inside the calligraphy design. The research also dealt with the analysis of a selection of artistic works of the Diwani Al-Jali calligraphy, which demonstrated the discretionary movement. Hence, the aim of the research was to present a new teaching approach in the field of design based on aesthetically enriching the discretionary movement of calligraphic design                                                                                                                   
The research concluded that the discretionary movement is achieved whether in the structure of the letters of the Diwani Jali calligraphy, or through the structure of the calligraphic design, or through the rhythm present in the design. The discretionary movement in the Diwani Jali calligraphy represents an aesthetic input that contributes greatly to enriching the contemporary calligraphic design plastically and aesthetically
