Abstract

A retained surgical foreign body is an unfortunate although avoidable event. Intraluminal migration is rare.
The author reports a case of a retained surgical sponge that had migrated totally into the small bowel and
presented with repeated attacks of sub-acute intestinal obstruction. An exploratory laparotomy was done
with removal of the retained surgical sponge, which was followed by complete recovery.
