Abstract

The research aims to identify the relationship between the use of social media platforms in following documentaries and their relationship to the development of national identity among Saudi university students, as social media sites are among the most important platforms used to direct ideas, as the identities and beliefs of many individuals are formed in them. Heritage documentaries are also considered an important tool for education, documentation and entertainment, as they contribute to enhancing the cultural and historical awareness of societies and promote cultural dialogue and understanding between different cultures. The total research sample consisted of 100 male and female students. The research tools included a questionnaire entitled “Using social media platforms to follow documentaries and their relationship to developing national identity among Saudi university students." The results were relatively close, and recommendations were proposed to research more about the differences in following Documentary films on social networking sites according to the economic backgrounds of the respondents, as well as differences in students' exposure to documentaries and their impact on their cultural awareness according to academic specializations, with research on the reasons for university students' lack of interest in reading articles on social networking sites, and also searching for ways to direct young people towards interest in the content. Traditional artistic content is equally interested in contemporary artistic content.
