Abstract

At the time being, the Egyptian Government interests are to develop the coastal areas in order to maintain and maximize the national economy and create new employment opportunities. The main objectives of this study are to reveal the groundwater aquifers in the study area and to delineate the possible subsurface structures affecting the groundwater potentiality to help the sustainable development of this strategic part of the costal area. The present study concerns with magnetic and geo-electric resistivity investigations. Euler deconvolution, analytical signal and power spectrum techniques were applied to the ground magnetic data of the Dahab area. Schlumberger configuration of the resistivity technique was applied to perform the lateral and vertical variations in the subsurface lithologic properties. Results of Euler method suggested that, at the eastern and western parts of the area, the basement could be observed on the ground (50 m over the ground) and became more deeper toward the central part to reach a depth of more than 1 km (from the ground level). However, the results of the analytical signal method indicated that, the depths to the basement surface has an average value of 156 m at the eastern side and 758 m at the western side. Generally, the area is characterized by a graben structure bounded by major faults striking in the NW-SE direction. Moreover, the geoelectric cross sections constructed indicated that, the groundwater flow and movement are controlled by the intervened structure.
