Abstract

A complete Coptic (Sahidic) epitaph for an Apa Simothe of Tiloj (=Nilopolis) likely dates between the seventh and ninth centuries. The epitaph is one of a relatively small group of “litany inscriptions" that begins with an invocation to the trinity, archangels, notable biblical figures, and several saints and martyrs.
