Abstract

The idea of sustainable tourism emerged as a result of the symptoms of the disruption of the natural environment on the ground. The tourism industry is connected directly and indirectly to the concept of sustainable tourism for the use of the most important resources of the land. The aim of the research is to achieve sustainable tourism villages as a beginning to establish the principles of sustainable tourism. The study was based on a series of studies, researches and reports related to sustainable tourism, in addition to the field study that was applied to the city of Hurghada, because of the city's diversity of environment and culture. For this purpose, a questionnaire form was designed and distributed to the professors of architecture at the faculties of engineering in Egypt to measure the relative weight of a number of indicators and criteria related to the three sustainable tourism domains (society, environment, economy). The research came out with a number of results, the most important of which is that the field of society ranked first in terms of impact and importance, followed by the field of the environment, and ranked last in the field of economy as one of the most important areas of sustainable tourism. The study concluded with a set of recommendations that help village tourism entrepreneurs to implement the principles of sustainable tourism. Based on the previous studies and the results of this study, a proposed methodology was developed to evaluate the tourism villages in Egypt from the perspective of the principles of sustainable tourism.
