Introduction: Unintended accidental awareness during general anesthesia represents failure of 
successful anesthesia, and so has been the subject of numerous studies during the past decades. Aim 
of the work: The aim of our study is to assess the incidence of awareness and recall of surgical events 
in emergency laparotomy in Minia university hospital under general anesthesia from 1st February 
2018 to 31st July 2018. Patients and Methods: This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted 
in Minia University hospital emergency department during the period from 1st Febuary 2018 to 31st
July 2018 after obtaining approval from the ethical committee and written consent from the patients
Results: About 154 patients were admitted to emergency department for emergency laparotomy 
within period from 1st February 2018 to 31st July 2018, according to exclusion criteria, 51 patients 
were ruled out.
